Wedding Favors - Adding a personal touch

Every so often I get asked by brides or other wedding vendors what makes a wedding unique (or stand out) to me. It was always hard to answer because weddings tend to follow a normal routine but every wedding is beautiful in it’s own way. However, I can say one thing (and I’m sure most vendors agree) that when the bride & groom add personal touches to shine who they are as a couple, it creates some of the strongest memories from the day! Wedding favors are one of the best ways to say THANK YOU to your friends and family in a personal way!

Think about your hobbies as a couple, favorites items, activities and favorite past times. Also, does your wedding day involve a theme or decor pattern? I’m a true believer in incorporating your environments and surroundings to the big day as well, it says a lot about who you are and not to mention using what’s in season! Local staples are my favorites; pie recipes, fruits, flowers, candies, special spices or mixes. How about family traditions (grandma’s ultimate cookie recipe)? Guests appreciate thoughtful and useful items, as well as the creativity.
Favors can sometimes be the last item checked off on the planner, but they don’t have to be daunting. Have your friends come over for a favor party and help assemble things together while drinking, eating and chatting it up! Great for bridal party gatherings!
Wonderful favor ideas I have seen; mini jugs of milk and cookies, local jellies & jams, copper airplane statues (both were pilots!), artwork from India, chopsticks. Another popular idea is donating to a charity or non-profit organization in honor of your guests, simply supply a note at their seat of the donation in their name. Ideas are infinite! Check out more online resources like The Knot and local retail stores and markets. And remember….you don’t have to be crafty just thoughtful! It’s the thought that counts, right :)

For our wedding favors, we did 2×2x2 black boxes with a lime green ribbon all fasteed by a sticker with our monogram and date on it. Inside the boxes were 7 sugar-covered-almond candies. It is a Greek and Italian tradition to give these out at your wedding, but usually they are wrapped in tulle and tied with a bow. Well, we aren’t ‘tulle’ people, so a black box with no bows worked better for us. My mom, grandma, and myself sat at the kitchen table and made every one of the 200 total in just 2 nights, which wasn’t bad at all! The time really goes by when you have the help of loved ones and those two nights will always be kept in my memory since there were 3 generations of Greek women making my wedding favors! They also added to the decor of the tables at the reception - there was one at every other place setting (one per couple). We thought they were a fun tradition that we were able to make more up-to-date to fit our style and we couldn’t have been any happier with them!! It’s always a “good thing” to be able to encorporate your background into your wedding, like the article above says… That Martha Stewart really knows what she is talking about!!
