Trends of 2009 – Rustic Vegetable Wedding Decor

Said to be a new trend (although this idea has been used many times before), lets just say it’s said to be more popular in weddings in 2009. I’m a believer in using your local harvest and resources…mix it with a small wedding budget, and you have incredible food and decor! Vegetables and fruits in bouquets, centerpieces and favors add a rustic feeling to the decor. From your own garden to farm stand finds – the fruits of our labor is the way to go! The images are from Susan & Steven’s upstate NY wedding featured in Martha Stewart – amazing and simple details.

My favorite idea from this wedding are the Eggling favors. Tiny planters filled with seeds of herbs like parsley and basil – this couple shared the hobbies of gardening and cooking. So cute and inexpensive!
Friends of the couple (in the food industry) stenciled their names in the bread for the big day. The reception tables held the couples’ favorite seed packets as a label for the guests to find.

The invitations, menus and place cards were letterpressed with images in a minty-hue of fruit and vegetables. The place card holder was found in a yard-sale, possibly a postcard holder. The dark wood says rustic!

oh dear. love the sprouts in the eggshells!
