Alright brides and really, all ladies…photo + makeup = forever. Don’t ever forget it! Meet Alifa Wong (owner of A La Arte Beauty in San Francisco). She’s my go-to makeup artist, the only one I recommend professionally and personally. Alifa is going to give you the real talk on makeup, and how it relates to your life and wedding. So be on the lookout for more posts of tips, advice and pep talks from her! From Alifa:

Hello everyone! A wedding involves so much planning and so many little details, and as it should, since it is one of the biggest and most important days in a girl’s life. So when it comes to makeup for this special occasion, it should be a detail that is not overlooked. As with everything else that comes along with the wedding plans, hiring your makeup artist will be one of the most important decisions you will make. Don’t be afraid to ask your artist questions- lots of it. Get to know your artist and let her or him get to know you. Makeup is not just about the colors on the outside, it can also bring out beauty and confidence from the inside.

Every bride is so beautiful and unique in her own way and her makeup should reflect this as well. Whether it is a beautiful red lip, dramatic smokey eyes or very neutral makeup, it should showcase not only the bride’s gorgeous features, but also her personality and style. Many brides feel tempted to try something fun and different since they have the aid of an artist. Don’t get me wrong, trying new looks could be a good thing. However, I cannot stress the importance of feeling comfortable in your own skin. With that said, make sure your artist at least asks you some of the following questions:

• How do you feel about foundation? Love it, hate it? Let’s talk about it.

• How much makeup do you normally wear?

• What are some makeup products you can’t go a day without?

• What feature would you like to focus more on?

• Is there something that you are known for? i.e. red lips, black rimmed eyeliner…etc

Now as a makeup artist, I can tell you that there are a few products that I cannot live without. Regardless if one is an au-natural kinda girl or a sexy smokey eye kinda girl, these products should be in every girl’s makeup bag and used for her wedding photos!

• Eyebrow pencil/powders (Frames your eyes and your whole face)

• Eyeshadow primer (even if it’s just used alone!)

• Concealer (I would not be caught dead without this product)

• False eyelashes (From subtle to sexy, false lashes are really every girls’ bff)

• Blush (Who doesn’t want to look youthful?)

• Lip gloss (Touchups anyone?)

I’d love to elaborate more on these products, but I’m thinking we should save that for another post because there is so much to talk about for every single one!

So for now, I leave you with the importance of hiring an artist for your big day. They are someone who will make sure that those eyelashes are intact, those brows groomed perfectly, the eyeliner is completely straight and the lipstick stays through that first kiss. And not just any artist, but one that you are completely comfortable working with. An artist who understands you, but more importantly, one who is not only able to enhance your features but also help bring out that confidence and glow from within. You’ll be glad to know that on your big day, when everything might seem a little chaotic, you’ll have someone who’s got your back, I mean face, when it comes down to the smallest detail of making you the beautiful bride that you are. — Alifa
