Trends of 2008 – Groom’s Boutonniere

Photos: Edyta Szyszlo Photography

Did you know that the word ’boutonniere’ comes from the word ‘button’ in French? Little tid bit for ya! Ode to the bout…I’m not sure if trends have really come on gone with boutonnieres (well ok, baby’s breath is pretty scarce these days), however, the past couple years these mini bouquets have gotten pretty creative! Choose the boutonniere in the same fashion as you would the bouquet, but allow your groom to be involved in the process. Think about your wedding theme, colors, decor, color of his tux or suit and functionality. Boutonnieres tend to take more of a beating throughout the wedding day so be sure to consult with your florist when picking a style. Don’t forget the bout is worn on the left jacket lapel. Also, I highly recommend having your florist show you how to put one on in case there’s a time crunch on the wedding day. Two florists worth checking out for unique designs: Bay Area – Passiflora Designs & Chicago – Hello Darling. Check out more creative bouts! (more…)

While checking out one of my favorite design blogs (Design Sponge), I came across a mentioning of a wonderful florist in the NYC area named Nicolette Camille. I believe she’s located around the Brooklyn area but from some of the comments on Design Sponge, she works in the tri-state area. If you are planning a wedding in the northeast and love whimsical, organic arrangements – check her out! Her use of color and unique flowers is absolutely perfect! I love it! Did I mention I adore Thayer’s work as well….

Eco-friendly Ways to Go Green on Your Wedding Day!

Photos courtesy of Martha Stewart

April 22 is Earth Day! I thought it would be informative to share some eco-friendly ideas to help make your wedding day as green as can be! Many articles are saying that this is a trend, but I hope that these pointers can become a permanent choice in helping our environment – wedding or not. In my own digital photography workflow, I try to minimize as much paper as possible by communicating through email. My proofs are viewed only online, as well as the album proofs. All my ink cartridges are recycled, and I try to use reusable/recyclable papers and packing materials. Any bit helps! Check out ways you can help! (more…)

Stephanie & Jim’s Real Wedding – St. Louis

Photos: Edyta Szyszlo Photography

I promised on my “town of toasted ravioli post” to display some wedding photos from my trip down to St. Louis for Stephanie and Jim’s wedding! I’ve been told by several people that I must of brought spring with me that weekend (mid 70s and sunny) since they had a huge snowstorm right after I left! But I think it was just the love in the air from Stephanie and Jim :) I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to work with or a more beautiful and relaxed day. You guys truly made my work day easy! Super fun, sweet, and totally in love are just some of the few ways to describe them. Check out more of their images and details…. (more…)

Trends of 2008 – Bridal Flower Bouquets

Photos: Edyta Szyszlo Photography

I love love love flowers (especially peonies)! They are my favorite detail to photograph at weddings (as you can see in the 3 flower collages!) and give off such an aura about the overall day. Recently, a read a little tid bit about the brides bouquet…the brides make-up for the day should match her bouquet style. I would love to hear what make-up artists think about this idea! Essentially, the style of your bouquet (dramatic, romantic, flirty, natural, etc) says a lot about who you are and what you are portraying on your wedding day, so it makes total sense that it could compliment your make-up, such as your lip gloss or eye shadow. New trend of 2008?! (more…)

Cynthia & Mark’s Real Wedding – San Francisco

Photos: Edyta Szyszlo Photography

Cynthia and Mark had a classic summer San Francisco wedding! With fog and all! A very intimate setting at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, Cynthia and Mark wed on the outdoor terrace with an indoor reception to follow. They were such sports when it came to the wedding photography because China Beach in San Francisco (as seen above) was chilly and the tide was high. I usually see dolphins in this area but we had no luck that day! Check out more of the wedding photography… (more…)
