A couple weeks ago not only was I spring cleaning, but I had to create a little centerpiece for the ’secret project’ I’m working on…which means I had a mini photo shoot! Two things were decided: I wanted to incorporate birch (because I’m just in love with it) and wanted to spruce up a simple vase. BAM! I came up with birch sleeved vases with diy brooches, fabric flowers and ribbon bouts aka the all-in-one ‘vase boutonniere’! (more…)

After squeaking in excitement from viewing these images, it all came to me…these secret weddings, elopements and smaller weddings seem to be popping up more than usual. I’ve even photographed more in the last few months than ever. So this post isn’t just about showing the most adorable secret wedding (you’ll die when you see the details) in Central Park but proving that these intimate affairs are on the rise in 2010! You can probably thank the budgets and appreciation for intimate romantic settings for this trend ;)

2009 was a HUGE year for wedding trends especially for the hip, indie bride! Not only did the diy train take-off later in the year, but I think the handmade artisans and crafters led the whole way! I’m definitely one of ‘their’ biggest fans and supporters. Indie artisans keep on rocking into 2010 and beyond! Check out the rest of the favorite indie artisans here. Please include your favorites in the comments, let’s share and mingle!
ps – come see me at the first ever Indie Wed on Jan. 30th in Chicago! If all goes well, maybe it will make it’s way to San Francisco soon!

The wedding I currently have in my post-production inspired this one! Since the days of rice throwing, weddings really haven’t had much action in the exit confetti department. Sure, it’s a hassle – from clean up, to wasteful and wedding budget-cuts…exit confetti has seen better days. As a photographer seeking action in my shots, confetti is a great way to add a little emotional punch to your wedding exit (ya it has historical tradition too). You can purchase biodegradable confetti here and here. You can also create your own with unique punch-outs or my favorite idea from dried herbs (lavender being most popular)!! Oooo la la! You can even sew cute little sachets with vintage fabric to add a colorful pop to hands of the aisle guests. I love this couple’s alternative with paper airplanes! Now you have no excuse :)
